“Amidst life’s embrace,
Alwaysforgranted we chase,
Gratitude finds grace. “
– Haiku by ChatGPT
With the discussion of writers’ copyright in preps for AI, and the rise of Firefly, an Adobe software that will now allow Photoshop users to edit photos with text based requests, I myself, along with the rest of the crowd, am again circling the thoughts of the potential and fears of AI,.
And as I seen commented below a Firefly post on instagram, “ what is going to be left for photographers, editors, and creatives?”, I find myself once again rolling over the question myself here. – Besides the fact, us creatives weren’t paying much mind to the trucking, delivery, and retail industries, now that it is finally getting to us, we are worried, lol. This looks to focus more on the topic of AI based task oriented programs that seem to inevitably be reported on more and more and growing. Rather than purely the discussion of actual sentients, or deepfaking and/or AI itself. I wanted to briefly discuss the Human Factor within this.
First off, throughout history, mediums and tools have been changing time and time again with an ever expanding tree of possibilities and potentialities each time. The original photoshopping was an expertise that would require a delicate hand, knowledge of tools and abilities, and a facility.
It is now replaced by a tool accessible to the common student. And though there are much less true and thorough, there are still those that care enough to maintain the old crafts purely for existence.
In that I think we can see a few things that we can dissect and that show itself time and time again. That is one being that, for those who care, we will drag our fingernails through the dirt and heels through the sand, with intention.
Whether kicking and screaming or learning acceptance, the future shall pull us.
To this day, for those that have not forgotten, they still remain. With pride and precision, those that love the nostalgic analog ways of the past, keep it. Preserve it. Share and love it. Learn new ways to use what’s in front of them, incorporating the past and the new to weave the true “ hybrid of now “. With the presence of new does not always mean the loss of old, but possibly a cohabitation of both. Perhaps there is a new path and more ahead unseen that is not spawned by the depths of our fear.
And with the ever increasing access to creativity and accomplishing creative means, I feel almost a pride and support in Adobe’s efforts. Yes I am too scared of the ‘Omni-AI’ and losing my job, but hopefully we can find new ways if this path seems so inevitable or rebellion never replaces the old. Perhaps like the expansion of the printing press and allowing education to empower individuals, it is putting more tools in the hands of more people. Time will tell if this is shortcutting to oversaturation or if this is empowering more ideas within minds that may have never seen the chance to show them before.
Is this a new renaissance or a downfall of humanity? I think we should decide. Preserve and play with what you like to and best suits you. Connect with those alike. Will there be job loss, possibly, probably, unfortunately. Too will be the increased ability of more individuals and in that the opportunity for more ideas to come to life and experiment. The opportunities for some small things will not be outsourced to those who originally have received them, but for the ability of the empowered independent individual, this is a continued addition to their arsenal. And those that care will preserve, both the processes of the creatives as well as the process of the human to human interaction. But inevitably we further journey into this “hybrid now”. Eyes wide, fingers crossed.
Let us dig our nails while we can feel it.

In life, we often get caught up in the hustle and bustle, taking the everyday blessings for granted. The haiku reminds us to slow down, appreciate the beauty around us, and cultivate gratitude.
Haiku:
Amidst life’s embrace,
Alwaysforgranted we chase,
Gratitude finds grace.
Commentary:
The haiku reflects on the fast-paced nature of our lives, where we tend to overlook the small wonders and take things for granted. It encourages us to pause, breathe, and be mindful of the present moment. By doing so, we can open our hearts to gratitude, finding solace in appreciating the simple joys that surround us every day. Embracing gratitude can lead to a more fulfilling and contented life, as it fosters a deeper connection with ourselves, others, and the world we inhabit. Let us cherish the gifts life offers, no matter how small, and savor the beauty that exists in the seemingly ordinary.
